Forming in Saratoga Springs NY in summer 2017, The Reptiles' founding members Alex Savin and Scott Terwilliger met at a supermarket of all places.
Since their debut album, the band has released three singles, including January 2019's "Milkshake Squid."
"Milkshake Squid" grabs in with its infectious funk rock groove, followed almost immediately by vocal melodies rarely leaving room to want more. Most important though, is the song's ability to capture a cross between the bands staple psychedelic rock style and that youthful indie rock energy.
"'Milkshake Squid' was a random phrase that Alex and Scott spotted in the sample text of our website. During the production of Final Beginnings, Scott made a riff for it, and the song was released a year later," explains the band of the single.
With the February release of the Solidium EP, The Reptiles bring out the best parts of some classic genres to breed a sound familiar, yet all their own. Lush with addicting progressions, classic rock overtones, and a melodically satisfying vocal approach, the record boasts the aesthetic of psychedelic pop rock anthems.
"Solidium marks a change for us because it's the first time that our bassist, Tom Schinkel, sings lead vocals. The song Race You To The Water was released on our home-recorded project 'Freedom of Thought' last March. We've become more comfortable with settling into our pop outfit, which reflects in the songs on this record," says the band of the new EP.
