Following the release of his acclaimed trilogy of EP’s “Light Years Away”, “The Glass River” and “Fight To The Death”, Paul Maged had been on a creative roll; writing and recording a full length alt rock studio album with longtime producer, Sean Gill of The Passengerz, that was to be released in the Summer of 2020.
Then Covid-19 hit and everyone’s world was turned upside down. “I was home without access to the studio and all the music I had been working on for close to 2 years but I really wanted to work on something to mark this time.” Maged said.
Maged started writing in his home studio but due to the changed environment and isolation the music and the lyrics were different. “I really wanted to write a song about love, hope and togetherness because I realized that’s what many of us were missing. I didn’t have access to the studio or my group of musicians so I went back to my singer-songwriter roots. I wrote this song called, “Free To Fly”, from a place of loneliness. It’s about freeing our minds of ego and constraints; just letting ourselves go, to fly and explore”.
Paul Maged’s “Free To Fly” will be released worldwide on Wednesday May 6th. It will be available on Spotify, Amazon and Apple iTunes. An anime video will accompany the song. About the video Maged said, “I love animation and have used it in several videos but have never worked with anime. The video producer did a phenomenal job with the spirit of the song. It’s full of positivity and romanticism”.
