Wiens Lief

    Better Than Me (Acoustic)
Wiens Lief’s…“1960’s three-part harmony pop-folk…” (Geoff Wilbur’s Music Blog 2017) style has been compared to the likes of The Staves and The Smashing Pumpkins, while maintaining a style that “feels absolutely genuine.” (Ear to the Ground Music 2017).
Meeting online in a Facebook group for musicians living in Amsterdam, Tiana Stuart (U.S.A.), Joëtta Zoetelief (Netherlands), and Fanni Walla (Hungary), immediately hit it off and together recorded their first acoustic single, Better Than Me, in Tiana’s loft apartment. It was raining the day they recorded (as it often does in Amsterdam) and listeners can actually hear the gentle pitter-patter of the rain in some parts of the song. Not wanting to sound too ‘produced,’ the girls decided to leave the rain in the recording as a friendly nod to the fickle weather in Amsterdam.
Invited to perform for Amsterdam Boat Sessions, and Amsterdam Popprijs 2018, the girls decided to invite the talents of Behn Stuart (drums) and Scott Smith (bass) into the mix. With gritty drums, distorted bass, and stripped-down electric guitar, their tone now takes on an indie-rock feel that occasionally flirts with the like-yesterday nostalgia of grunge. Eloquently weaving together moody harmonies with heterophonic textures and hooks, Wiens Lief leaves behind an unforgettable performance that compels one to hum their tunes long after the show is over.
Wiens Lief is set to record their first EP this fall.
