Born in Lubbock, Texas of a musical family, Johnny “Chops” Richardson lives in Austin with his wife, Andy and their two stubborn rescued Bassett hounds, Reggie and Emmylou.
Johnny lives and breathes music, in particular, the craft of songwriting. While playing bass with the Randy Rogers Band since 2002, he has landed several songs on the band’s albums, including “Ten Miles Deep,” a staple of their live show, “Last Last Chance,” which garnered a Texas Music Chart #1, “Shotgun” a cinematic, hard driving country rocker from the acclaimed Trouble album and “Wicked Ways,” which was chosen to perform on the band’s appearance on Late Night with David Letterman. His first foray into a solo career, 2013’s Sticks & Stones was called by NoDepression.com “Predatory rockabilly, swampy blues, all garage spit and polished.” He is currently wrapping up production on his follow up with Reckless Kelly guitarist and producer David Abeyta. The new album seeks to establish a signature sound, featuring bluesy grit and soulful vocals backed by an all star band, The Razors. Keep your eyes and ears open for their new single and tour dates coming this fall.
