It wasn't always this way - Hazy Jane began as a four piece, with songwriter Paul Milan sharing vocals with Chris. They played gigs around NYC and NJ for a while, but something more was needed. At a time when bare bones two member bands like The White Stripes and Black Keys were taking off, Hazy Jane just kept adding musicians - Eric Armour on drums, Josh Gebhardt on bass, Will Shore on keyboard and violin, Paul on guitar and keyboard.
They cover a wide sonic palette, from sparse acoustic melancholia to full tilt rockers. Indie Rock Guru says " they defy set genre norms, playing what feels right to them."
The lyrics are intelligent, elegiac, hopeful, and heartfelt. With members who range in age from early 20s to mid-40s, this is a multi-generational experiment in finding the universal and timeless in a three-minute song. Home to the band is the musically rich city of Plainfield NJ, the starting point for jazzx piano great, Bill Evans. Of course, it's also the hometown of one of the mightiest and most wildly creative funk ensembles the world has seen: Parliament/Funkadelic. The 2019 release "Temporibus" is a four song trip through the seasons that will remain with you long after it's over.
