Michael Perry, the Sex Don’t Solve Problems singer, is a queer Canadian Pop/R&B recording artist and songwriter of Antiguan descent.
Growing up on Antigua, Perry performed in numerous choirs and groups for numerous congregations across the island. At 11, he took the leap from choir boy to solo artist, resulting in the release of his first album in 2005. This Gospel album received significant airplay on local Crusader Radio. Since then, he’s switched from Christian to Pop & R&B music, striving to consistently improve his craft. Recurrent themes in his music include the struggle to love oneself in a world that often devalues what makes us individuals and the challenges of sexual and romantic relationships. He loves spreading what he calls the Queer Gospel – the good news that being different is a blessing. Past performances include the USA-Japan Goodwill Concert at Carnegie Hall (as part of the No Borders Youth Music Consort) and Fierté Montréal’s TD Bank Stage. He’s also performed on Montréal’s CKUT. In 2017, he released his first Pop music album, “Underwear Model,” landed an interview on Montréal’s CJAD, a feature on the Homoground Podcast, and radio airplay in San Diego, Altea (Spain). 2018 saw the release of his sophomore effort, “Unlocked.” In 2019, Perry became a certified audio technician. He also teaches English Literature at a Montréal Cégep/College.
