Isaac Makhdoomi comes from an Indian-Swiss family and grew up in the Basel area. As a child of two worlds, both culturally and musically, he enjoyed a childhood rich with experiences that equipped him with an open ear for many diverse musical influences. Being both a classically trained musician and an improviser with a love of experimentation, he succeeds in passionately translating all these versatile stimuli into his art. From 2005 to 2012, he studied recorder with Kees Boeke and Maurice Steger at the Zurich University of the Arts. Isaac Makhdoomi favors performing as a soloist and within chamber-music ensembles. His repertoire mainly comprises pieces from the early to the late Baroque period, but both music from the Renaissance and contemporary works are equally familiar to him. As an improvising recorder player, he loves presenting his instrument to show its dazzling sound colors and its great flexibility. In 2013 he teamed up with jazz pianist Andreas Svarc to form the crossover duo ”Sangit Saathi”. In 2016 they released their first album, Changing Moments, on which they recorded their own compositions. In 2015 Isaac Makhdoomi was given the opportunity to play the solo part in a CD recording of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos with the Brandenburg State Orchestra under the baton of Howard Griffiths. He is also a composer and has published works with Heinrichshofen and Edition Tre Fontane.
