Around 2016, McCain self recorded his first demo EP, entitled Los Originales, an admittedly low quality demo to serve as a catalyst to show people what his style was like.
From then on, he began playing with his band at the time, The Overflow. After playing gigs regularly in San Diego, Jack McCain moved his music career to Santa Barbara where he began planning his first official EP, The First. In Santa Barbara, McCain’s music fit well in the community and he began playing frequently at many venues in Santa Barbara, including Velvet Jones, Captain Fatty’s Brewery, local house parties, and a few more as well. During this time, McCain began to record his EP.
“I really liked how the EP came out; I didn’t want it to sound perfect, Most of all I wanted it to sound real, to sound live. Rock music isn’t always perfect, it’s gritty, dirty, and purely wonderful in it’s true form and Iggy [Israel] made that happen. I get a lot of my influences from bands like Catfish and the Bottlemen, Arctic Monkeys, and the likes of Cage the Elephant. To me a lot of their music contains that raw feel that I want my music to exude.”
