Perhaps many know Scattle best for his work on the soundtrack to the breakout indie hit Hotline Miami (2012).
A game that laid the foundation for his unmistakable sense of style through its raw homage to 80s pop culture and appropriately psychedelic themes.
Hotline's significance was twofold; acting as both a milestone and stepping block to his greater success. It earned him a fan base, whilst allowing his long history with games and music to bear fruit. That affinity with games led him to work on soundtracks to Furi, the remaster of Super Meat Boy and Hotline Miami's very own sequel.
The years following have seen an evolution and refinement of Scattle's sound, even outside of games; from synthwave to hiphop or house, he's released several EPs, albums and singles which demonstrate a versatile and distinctive quality. Scattle often describes a duality to the scenarios that he creates in his music. 'Boardwalk' for instance, from his 2015 album Timelapse, sweeps the gamut of human emotion with both its heavy bass and light synth. It contrasts the playful setting of the beach against the darkness that lurks beneath the waves.
His latest work has a similar effect: reveling in the contemplative while injecting it with mysterious sentiment and absolute energy.
