Starting in 2012, Alex Frost began his quest to form a band combining the heavy, satanic riffs of Electric Wizard and the bleak, atmospheric feeling of The Howling Void.
Failing to find like-minded doom musicians, & inspired by Ryan of The Howling Void’s ability to create a sensationally bleak and atmospheric sound solo, he began his journey to create his own doom project. Having played in many bands throughout his youth, Alex was able to create a sophisticated & professional solo sound using a multitude of instruments.
Witch Hanger set Alex on the path for the sound he was searching for & after a few months, he had put together several other songs including the long, slow & melodic Grim Creeper as well as the heavy, grinding & haunting Avalanchula. He began recording with Captivate Studios & the multi-talented musician/producer Tom Gibbons. Time constraints & work schedules led to day sessions being somewhat sporadic and only 2/3 sessions per year taking place. The time between each session allowed the album to grow & flourish & the patience and incredible talent of Tom Gibbons meant that new ideas were listened to and graciously welcomed.
The constant support of Jonathan Gilmore and Anya McKenna as well as a few guitar solos by session artists drove the album forward and Alex went on to find further influences from the world of funeral doom. More symphonic elements and a dark atmosphere were added to create the heavy, melodic music that was his first EP Witching Hour.
