LA duo TANGIENTS is a two-sided enigma, a dichotomy, a shadow and its’ reflection. Maybe they have something to prove.
Maybe they can’t decide if they’re a modern day post-punk outfit or an early-80s-inspired shoegaze dreamscape. Maybe it doesn’t matter, because it hits.
Chelsea Ray’s intense, yet eerily silky vocals blend effortlessly with and float over multi-instrumentalist Be Hussey’s thick wall of sonics. Of course it doesn’t hurt that Hussey is a producer with vast recording and touring experience armed with an LA studio (comp-ny). Paired with Chelsea Ray’s “mystifying voice [that] has that haunting Björk timbre” (Turn Up The Volume), TANGIENTS is “ethereal bliss at its finest” (Magnetic Magazine).
TANGIENTS new single “Hazel” seems like all things at once. Guitar noise and grinding bass meet polyrhythms that harken back to the original, yet add a fresh take on this obscure classic. Not a tribute but a re-imagined interpretation, boiled down to its essence then completely built up anew. The result is a sonic blast of vocal beauty and beats. “This f*cking ripsssssssss" - Michael Stock, Part Time Punks LA
