Maia Hirasawa, daughter of a Swedish mother and a Japanese father, started her career as a background singer and musician to Annika Norlin´s indie pop project Hello Saferide .
In 2006 when Myspace was flourishing, she gained a strong Internet fanbase with her demo-tracks. In 2007 her own-produced debut album Though, I'm Just Me was released, including the hit singles And I Found This Boy and Gothenburg. Since then she´s been a natural part of the Swedish, but also the Japanese music scene. In 2010 she went to Japan to take a break from music and came home with a huge music career in Japan, although that was not the plan. She got two big hit singles there in 2011; Boom and It Doesn't Stop. "Boom" became a fight song for the people suffering the big tsunami and earthquake in Japan 2011. The song was not written for that purpose, but the song/music video was released the same day as the earthquake happened. Maia was also in Japan at that time and had many friends suffering.
In 2016 her first album in Swedish was released called Vacker och ful.
She now sings in both Swedish, English and Japanese and she says she says she will continue singing in all the languages. From 2018 she releases her music on her own label.

She released a Christmas album in Nov 2019 and the album "Bättre" was released 22nd of May and is an album about her 40-year crisis. Apparently a Swedish thing.
Maia works both as an solo artist and as a composer to movies and commercials mostly in Japan.
