“Gonsofus” means the creation of positive fire and energy. The word, originally from Kenya (where Russian-born singer and multi-instrumentalist Sasha Mamaev spent a part of his childhood) and the meaning it carries has served as a driving force for the project and its philosophy – creating positive thought-provoking and boundary-pushing music for a global audience.
Together with drummer and multi-instrumentalist Gábor Tokár, Gonsofus has spent the last 5 years touring Europe, United States, and Russia, with more than 400 overall concerts in 19 countries. The idea of “gonsofus” is reflected as well in their live shows, where using live-looping Mamaev and Tokár plant musical seeds and over the course of the show grow them into complex transcontinental compositions.
On November 7, 2019 the duo released their long-awaited new EP – Distant Shores.
“This EP is an introduction to what to expect in the future; our project went through a major growth and transformation in the past years, technically and sonically as well. We’ve grown and evolved as musicians, and explored and expanded the possibilities of the music the two of us can create together”.
“We’ve worked hard on breaking down geographical, language, and social boundaries, exploring foreign lands, distant shores; learning along the way. And through this journey we’ve become blessed with having listeners all around the world. This album is a reflection of and a homage to that and to them”.
