Berlin-based quartet Peripheral Cortex makes brutal, highly complex music that is clearly rooted in European technical death metal, but at the same time the band is not afraid to include unorthodox sounds into their compositions.
With influences ranging from Necrophagist to Pat Metheny and Mike Patton’s projects, the cacophonic tech death of Peripheral Cortex has very little care for the conventions of extreme metal.
Bassist Rob and drummer Chris started the band after settling in Berlin in 2013, with guitarist LJ and vocalist Patrick joining in shortly after. The quartet imposed only one rule upon themselves: whatever they do, they have to enjoy doing it. And if that’s outside the boundaries of tech death, so be it. Saxophones? Sure, toss them in! Versatile and unusual vocals? Yes, please. Some twisted riffs with odd timing? Absolutely. And how do we pay tribute to Necrophagist? Well, let’s meticulously arrange the unreleased track Dawn and Demise from amateur footage on YouTube and record it in the studio.Peripheral Cortex is here to stay and surprise the stereotypes!
