With a clear voice that's often compared to Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton, Kimberly M'Carver delivers poignant vulnerability.
A combination of delicacy and strength, and Americana-style songwriting, highlight her wounded soprano. Born in Dallas, Texas, and a classical voice major at UT Austin, she moved to Houston and began performing her music in 1987. A tape of her songs sent to Rounder Records, resulted in a recording contract in 1989. Her Rounder releases, Breathe the Moonlight (1990) & Inherited Road (1994), with Grammy Awardee Jerry Douglas & Stuart Duncan (Lyle Lovett), found critical success.
In 2003, M'Carver's song Serious Doubt was recorded by Grammy Awardee Jeannie Kendall (The Kendalls) with Allison Moorer, charting on BillBoard. M'Carver also appears on many compilation cds.
She produced Hard Waltz in 2013 with Scott Neubert. It includes Claire Lynch, John Thomasson (Little Big Town), Eamon McLoughlin (Emmylou Harris), Jeff Taylor (Elvis Costello, Robert Plant), & bandmate Eric Korb, and charted on the Roots Music Report Texas Roots Airplay list, Radio Free Americana, the Top 50 Folk Nationally Roots Music Report list, and Top 20 on Freeform American Roots Chart.
