Candice Hoyes brings her otherworldly vocalism to a new single “Waiting for the World (Tired)" — an Afro futuristic flow on the iconic poem by Langston Hughes.
With the success of her 2020 single “Zora’s Moon,” Candice Hoyes was hailed in Vogue for her “chill-inducing range” and JazzFM (UK) named her “an artist with the most eclectic and delicious voice ever.” A multi-genre vocalist, archivist and sampler, Candice is an artist and producer with an eye for bringing “Black history into the present” (NPR). She is a winner of the coveted 2020 NYC Women’s Fund for breakthrough recording artists.
She mined the archives to produce her acclaimed 2015 jazz project, "On a Turquoise Cloud,” and previously recorded with Wynton Marsalis's Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra and a collective of other vocalists (Blue Engine Records: The Music of Jazz at Lincoln Center) in 2014. Flexing her depth, Candice has recorded with artists from Lin-Manuel Miranda (Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton) to Philip Glass.
Both Waiting for the World (Tired) and Zora's Moon are produced by Casey Benjamin (Robert Glasper Experiment, Anderson .Paak, Q-Tip). Candice partners with pianist Sullivan Fortner (Dianne Reeves, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Jazzmeia Horn) to pen songs inspired by Hurston and Maya Angelou as well as interpreting music by Roberta Flack and Minnie Riperton. The upcoming album features vibraphonist Joel Ross (Makaya McCraven), violinist Chiara Fasi (Solange) and trumpeter Keyon Harrold (Nas).
