My first introduction to the Uilleann pipes was listening to Planxty years ago. I heard them on the radio playing a song called the Blacksmith. When I first heard Liam O Flynn playing the pipes in this song it was like an awakening, some sort of genetically encoded sound that I recognised maybe from a past life. Within the space of a month or so I had a practice set and I was on my way to becoming a piper.
I picked up a dozen instruments along my way through life and learnt to play them all. Now they assist me in song writing and composing music daily.
‘Black Dog Island’ 2017 was my first solo album of 16 original folk and contemporary songs. It was a great album and a great achievement for me, writing for years and eventually doing something with that big bag of songs.
This New Album is called “Elizabeth née Ellis’’ (Fitzgerald) 2019. It is dedicated to my late mother who passed in Nov 2017. She was an amazing woman. This time around again, I have composed another entire album in both music and song. The album consists of 5 songs and 6 pieces of music. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed creating it.
