Singer-songwriter Alex Hallahan first entered the Melbourne music scene in 2008 with his adventurous yet intimate debut album The Turning Wheel.
His second album, Human Veins was released in 2011 and with it came noticeably more texture, more production and more instrumentation from his then accompanying band. In 2015 Hallahan released an intimate solo track called Tangle For Two that harked back to his debut album in style.
Throughout his career Hallahan has gained high praise for his distinctive singing voice, literary lyric writing style and for his ability to straddle multiple music genres seemingly with ease. Hallahan’s sound has been associated with genres such as indie folk, alternative pop, lo-fi, Americana, blues, roots, alt country and soul. Hallahan describes his song writing process as a release “I feel like I’m a sponge drifting in a sea of inspiration, I squeeze and a build-up of ideas rush out of me.” His lyrics are descriptive, visual, and observational. He is inspired by many music artists and styles and cites film and literature as also being a big inspiration.
Having been on stage from a young age Hallahan has a natural ease when performing, his disarmingly open personality and offbeat sense of humour shines through between songs. His performance style is described as being emotive and even cathartic. His voice is expressive with a vulnerability that seems channelled from somewhere deep within. He performs solo or with accompanying musicians.<br>
