The ballad is a cover of a popular Chinese love song. This is likely the first such offering of a Canadian performer to the ethnic Chinese community. Fowlie is grateful for the response she’s received from the Chinese Community in preparation of the release.
The song is presented to welcome newly arrived Chinese people and communicate that the occidental side of the BC live music community wishes to connect with other cultures that are part of the Canadian diversity she celebrates.
“I don’t speak Mandarin” says Karen, “so I learned Mandarin phonetically for the recording to reach out to the Chinese people in my community. "
"There are many new Canadians who stay in their homes raising children while husbands return to China to procure income”, Karen says. “I feel that ‘The Moon Represents My Heart’ carries the promise of love’s return.”
“Being a single mom, my heart goes out to those women. I want to welcome them and help them to be involved in local community events.”
Fairchild Media Group featured a performance by Fowlie at their Chinese New Year Celebration. Karen later returned to speak on TV talk show “Leisure Talk”.
"To me, inclusion is what being Canadian is all about.”
