Rachel Beausoleil grew up with music at the centre of her world. Born and raised in Montreal, her favourite family gatherings were filled with sounds of French call-and-response songs.
For over 25 years, Rachel has followed her life-long passion for all aspects of voice work.
Her voice studies include working with acclaimed bass-baritone Ingemar Korjus, and JUNO winner Jeri Brown. In Brazil she received instruction from living legend Rosa Passos, who gave her a thumbs-up.
Rachel’s performances show her love of languages, world musics, and a fondness for drama and dance. Notable venues include:
♪ the Molson Stage at Toronto’s Harbourfront
♪ the Prime Minister’s residence, in Ottawa
♪ Le Balcon, in Montreal
♪ Almanaque Café, and University of São Paulo, in Brazil
Rachel toured with the Panamérica Canção Project in 2013, alongside Evandro Gracelli (guitar) and Emilio Martins (percussion), in Ottawa and throughout the state of São Paulo.
Since the late 1980s, Rachel has been part of many vocal groups, including:
♪ a capella sextet, C’est What?
♪ The Juliet Singers treble trio
♪ The Capital Voices mixed quartet.
She has also fronted her own combos, including
♪ Latin jazz group, Caoba (1990s)
♪ Beausoleil Trio, with guitarist Garry Elliott and percussionist Liz Hanson
♪ Sol da capital Brazilian jazz quintet
Brazz features Beausoleil Trio and Sol da capital.
Rachel’s previous recordings are Close to My Heart (2002), and The Dawning (2009).
