London-based hard rock band Empty Friend formed in 2015, taking its name from an album track by L.A. alt-rockers Failure.
Mixing driving guitar riffs and wailing vocals, Empty Friend draws on elements of hard rock, grunge, stoner and metal, resulting in a battery of heavy tunes with melodic overtones.
Drummer Karl M. (Looking For Droids) and Ryan O. first met in College in North West London, racking up experience in a string of punk, rock and hardcore bands in the local scene. But it was years later, following a Soundgarden reunion gig, that the pair met and joined with singer-songwriter and frontman Dave K. (Dead Man Band), and Rich F. (Dead Man Band).
Following an extensive songwriting period with successful initial shows, the band parted ways with founding member Rich, continuing as a 3-piece until mid-2017 when bassist Daverage N. (Looking for Droids) joined to complete the lineup, and the four continue to pen and perform a growing setlist spanning hard rock, grunge, alt-rock and stoner rock.
The band self-released its first EP (Saltwater) in 2018, and has finished recording a second EP, expected to be released late 2019.
