Through a mutual fascination for Gillian Welch and her talents as a songwriter, the musicians in Silver Lining instantly hit it off.
The band was formed after having played a gig together at the Crossroad Club’s “Sunday Classics” concept, where they did a full cover of the album “Soul Journey”. They have been working on writing their own songs ever since, in addition to having performed several times in and around Oslo. Their lyrics are heartbreakingly dark, and undeniably beautiful. The harmonies are pushed forward by the guitars, as well as the occasional dobro and pedal steel. Silver Lining stands out from other bands in the country/americana genre by the members’ equal involvement with the project. The band consists of four songwriters, singers and instrumentalists; and all four members contribute to the project with their own lyrics and musical preferences. Halvor Falck Johansen’s voice resembles a young Bob Dylan or Townes Van Zandt, whereas Live and Stine’s harmonies are reminiscent of the sisters in First Aid Kit and the Staves. The members also work with other musical projects; The Northern Belle, The Humble Servants, Rattlers, Burrowing (Adam Eaton), and Comet Kid amongst others.
