Santiago Quartet was founded in Merida Mexico in 2005, inspired by the vibrant, soulful music of Latin America.
Originally Cuarteto Genesis, the name Santiago Quartet was chosen when two of its founding members moved to England after several years with the Yucatan Symphony Orchestra.
The Quartet has collaborated with renowned Yucatecan guitarist, Naxos artist, Cecilia Perera, singer-songwriter Ana Silvera and the Grammy Award winning Cuarteto Latinoamericáno. Santiago’s first album, Latin Perspective, with Cuban guitarist Ahmed Dickinson, received outstanding reviews in Gramophone and Songline Magazines.
2013 saw a new beginning for the group, since when the Quartet has worked closely with composer Will Todd, and in collaboration with bandoneón player Julian Rowlands (”Tango Nirvana” - The Guardian). Santiago Quartet continues to explore its love affair with the music of Latin America and has brought that passion to the Purcell Room, St.Martins in the Fields, Guildford Spring Music Festival, Budleigh Music Festival and the studios of Radio 3 and Classic FM.
