A German hip-hop artist known for his often-comic lyrical style, rapper Weekend was born Christoph Wiegand in 1986.
Deeply influenced by German rap crew Creutzfeld & Jakob, Weigand began getting into hop-hop in 2001, and in 2005, he started performing and recording under the name Weekend (the name referring to the fact that rapping was his hobby, as he made his living as a social worker). Weekend's initial releases were posted online as free downloads, including his first full-length album, 2009's Fans Gesucht, and he appeared on mixtapes with other German MCs including Beatzebs, Reffnek, and Tesa. In 2011, Weekend performed in the Video Beat rap battle tournament, making his way into the finals after upsetting Tamo-Flag in a match up, and he participated in the Splash! competition in 2012. Weekend's success in rap battles eventually led to a record deal with Chimperator Productions. Weekend's first album for the label, Am Wochenende Rapper, was released in the summer of 2013, and became a significant commercial success in Germany. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
