Typically categorized as an experimental, dark and progressive rock band, Culto Oculto has in fact incorporated diverse influences and instrumentation during its long history, drawing from psychedelic rock to new wave, hard rock, folk music, electronica and drum&bass.
Founded between 1989/90 and determined to make their music known to the world, they became, together with Sentimiento Muerto , in one of the only two Venezuelan bands to play in the mythical CBGB’s in NY.
First album Flotar no es mas que existir.. un movimiento ondulatorio was recorded in 1996/97 and released by Mexican label Culebra Continental. In 1999 the band recorded its second album Baralt000mix, released in 2000, and in 2002 the third album Blanco.
In 2003, the band toured in Spain and Portugal as part of Blanco Tour 2003. During the tour was invited to play live in the legendary space of the RTVE Radio y Televisión Española Conciertos de Rario 3 becoming the first Venezuelan band to perform in this important show. After the European tour, band members ceased activities beginning new musical projects.
In 2007, Culto Oculto performed at 15th Sziget Festival 2007 in Budapest, Hungary. This acted as a trigger to work on a new production. Due to Venezuelan conflict and the collateral damage to the band, the work was never published.
Culto ocultO is formed by guitarist José Henríquez, bassist Sydney "Gato" Reyes, drummer José Juan Sanguinetti and keyboard Paulo de Oliveira.
