In 2012 I started the first version of my band “William Soovik Grand Finale”. At that time the group consisted of 8 people and we played some weird kind of free-jazz and marching band hybrid-music. This constellation existed for a couple of years but other bands started to crave more of my attention and my bandleader-ambitions where put on hold.
After a period of heavy gig-drought, jazz-anxiety and restlessness, over the summer and fall of 2017, it was time to do something of my own again. Something simple, fun and not so fragile. Something rustic with good friends. All of these things resulted in this little firecracker of an album that was composed, rehearsed and recorded over the first four months of 2018.
I kind of think that the music sounds like if Led Zeppelin started a band together with The Bad Plus, Nirvana and Frank Zappa that exclusively wrote theme songs for japanese manga series or commercial jingles for german hardware-stores. It’s easy to imagine, right?
I have the great pleasure of playing with some of my best friends and colleagues on this one, so I’m very happy to share this music with you.
