Jillea — who won Slaight Music’s 2013 It’s Your Shot songwriting and artist development competition with her heart-wrenching rhythmic-ballad Shattered
— is Toronto based and has already made her mark here with multiple high profile appearances including performances at We Day Ottawa & Halifax, co-hosting the 2016 iHeartRadio MMVA Red Carpet, a Canadian Screen Award nomination and more.
Her debut EP Who Is Jillea
also yielded singles Goddess
and feisty tell-off Miss America
, the latter being all about what Jillea stands for, with a lyric that declares she’s not a cover girl that can be changed and molded.
“I like to show every side of me in my music,” Jillea explains. “So there is a confident side, a cockiness, just as there is to pretty much everybody, but some of my songs are more emotional and vulnerable. When someone listens to my music, I want to hit on almost every feeling they might have too.”
Now, it’s all about what’s next and so, Jillea is writing and recording new original songs with Joel Stouffer (Dragonette) and Nathan Ferraro (Virginia to Vegas, Bulow) with a view to releasing her next single summer 2018.
