Born in Cape Town, South Africa, progressive singer/songwriter Yoav was interested in music from a young age.
An avid songwriter by his teens, Yoav dropped out of college and spent a year in London shopping a demo of his songs around, to little label interest. Then, a call from his cousin, who had passed the demo along to a producer in the United States, brought Yoav to New York City, where he began playing local gigs. Around the same time, Yoav became increasingly influenced by electronic music and the club/dance culture that surrounded it. Looking to infuse his more traditional singer/songwriter compositions with this electronic vibe, Yoav discovered a more rhythmic, percussive way of playing the guitar and began writing music this way. Yoav moved to the U.K. in 2006 and began shopping his new tracks around to different labels, eventually signing with Field Recordings. He released his debut album, Charmed & Strange, in 2008. Foolproof Escape Plan followed in 2010. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
