Indie pop duo Alexander Jean are not only musical partners, but romantic as well. Before joining forces, Mark Ballas (guitar/producer/songwriter) scored some minor acting roles before starring on Dancing with the Stars, which nabbed him an Emmy nomination, while BC Jean (singer/songwriter) most notably wrote Beyoncé's "If I Were a Boy." The pair -- whose stage name derives from a combination of their middle names -- met and started collaborating on sweet guitar-based ditties in 2012.
The first song they wrote together was "Head High," but it wasn't until a chance meeting with Stephan Moccio (co-writer of Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball") that the seeds were planted for their first major single, the romantic ballad "Roses and Violets." After the song was featured on Dancing with the Stars, it began to chart, paving the way for their debut EP, Head High, in 2016. A second EP, High Enough, arrived the following summer. ~ Neil Z.
