Insect Guide were formed in Leeds in late 2005 by singer Su Sutton and guitarist Stan Howells .

The debut album, 6ft in Love, was released in October 2007. UK's Uncut Magazine praising its 'accessible and joyously barbed pop songs', awarding it four stars and naming it as one of their Debut Albums of the Month.
In January 2008, Insect Guide released The Sonic Boom Remix EP - mixed by Sonic Boom (Spacemen 3/Spectrum). The song 'Frozen' was featured on Psychedelica Three, the third of Northern Star Records' acclaimed compilations of contemporary psychedelic music.
In early 2008, Insect Guide began giving away a free CDR at gigs containing a cover version of Dinosaur Jr.'s Freakscene. Featured on the Steve Lamacq show on the BBC's 6 Music and reviewed in the NME who described it as an 'amazing cover of Dinosaur Jr.'s finest moment'.
For the rest of 2008, Insect Guide focused on live performances in the UK, USA and Europe.
In early 2010, Insect Guide announced that their second album, entitled Dark Days & Nights, would be released later that year. The title track was released as a single to positive reviews. The Guardian called it 'one of the best singles I've heard this year' and this lead to a live session on Marc Riley's Radio 6 Show.
In early 2010, Insect Guide signed a deal with the Moorworks label to release both their albums in Japan.
