“On the show, they say the word ‘Courtship’ easily a couple of million times, since that’s what animals do all day long—they just court each other,” explains Micah. “We both agreed, ‘That’s pretty cool’…”
“…But we added the period, because we’re dirty rotten hipsters,” laughs Eli. Sharing passions for Jack Kerouac, road trips, and baseball (now that Micah taught Eli about why the game rules), they locked into a quirky harmony from the jump, fusing funk flash, indie energy, pop ebullience, and some sick dance moves.
Once the name was decided, they uploaded their first collaboration “Stop For Nothing” online. After emailing blogs D.I.Y., Hilly Dilly properly released the song via its singles label 20XX.
Acclaimed early on by Billboard, NME, The Four Oh Five, and more, they landed a major sync as Snapchat chose “Sunroof” to soundtrack a Custom Stories launch campaign.
Between a tour supporting Passion Pit, they crafted what would become their 2018 full-length debut preceded by “Tell Me Tell Me”—which cracked 2 million streams in under three months.
