German funeral doom trio Ahab were founded in the town of Esslingen by Midnattsol and Penetralia musicians Daniel Droste (vocals, guitars, keyboards) and Christian Hector (guitar), alongside Endzeit member Stephan Adolph (bass, background vocals).
Taking inspiration from Herman Melville's classic tale of a great white whale and the infatuated ship's captain who pursued it, Ahab first tested their creation in the shallow waters of a 2004 single entitled "The Stream" and 2005 demo named The Oath, before diving into the deep end with their 2006 album, the Napalm-issued The Call of the Wretched Sea. The Divinity of Oceans arrived in 2009, followed by The Giant in 2012. In 2015 the band released their fourth studio long player, The Boats of the Glen Carrig, a concept album built around the 1907 horror novel of the same name penned by William Hope Hodgson. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Rovi
