Marcus Lewis is a composer, arranger, trombonist, and educator based in Kansas City, MO. In 2018 Marcus released “Brass and Boujee” an album combining hip hop and an 18 piece big band that was number 2 on the iTunes jazz charts and number 15 on the billboard contemporary jazz charts.
Marcus also toured with Grammy nominated vocalist, Janelle Monáe for 8 1/2 years. He is as the Artistic Director of a non-profit dedicated to jazz education called Future Jazz KC. Marcus is also an adjunct professor of jazz at the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC). Some notable artists that Marcus has performed and or recorded with are Aretha Franklin, Quincy Jones, Janelle Monáe, Bruno Mars, B.o.B, Prince, Musiqsoulchild, Avery Sunshine, Jidenna, The Barkays, Confunkshun, and Sugarfoot’s Ohio Players. Marcus was awarded the Charlotte Street Generative Artist Award in 2018, and the UNESCO American Music International Innovator Award in 2020.
