The single is full of positive energy and reflects the nature of Valkyrie. Between the three musicians there is a strong bond, one that goes back years. Guitarist Rebel Reid and vocalist Omer Gilroy came together as collaborators in 2012 before bringing drummer and keyboardist Brandon Haru into the fold in 2015, completing the band’s lineup. From there, the Valkyrie sound began to thrive and flourish across a number of releases, videos and live shows which put them on the map in NZ as a band to watch.
The release of ‘Good Thing’ puts the group’s dynamism on show, with Gilroy’s vocals bouncing seamlessly off Reid and Haru’s tight instrumentation. The song itself, about good vibes and sustaining that energy, is a strong move for Valkyrie as they power ahead in creating more music as this year rolls out. “Imagine being stuck in isolated nature for a week, surrounded by The Beatles, The Stones and Jimi Hendrix. No cell service, just vinyls of the classics and friends. We had a ‘good thing’ going and what you hear in the song is how we felt whilst writing it.” Rebel Reid, Valkyrie
