‘Native Soul Project’ is a reggae/dub-inspired project combining Californian bassist, Alison Wunderland & New Zealand singer, songwriter, producer, Carla Werner.
The pair met in Los Angeles in 2015 and played their first show together at reputed ‘Reggae on the Mountain’ festival, going on to play many shows and supports in Southern California with the likes of reggae heavyweights Piracy Conspiracy, Pato Banton, Toots & the Maytels, Alborosie, Soul Syndicate (Fully Fullwood, Santa Davis, Tony Chin) and Sly & Robbie. More recently, the pair toured New Zealand in January 2020, previewing and promoting songs from the forthcoming debut album with local hero’s ‘Knights of the Dub Table’ and ‘Regan Perry’. Carla has completed the album in New Zealand due to the pandemic, and worked remotely with various musicians in the US and New Zealand including producer/artist, Paddy Free of Pitch Black (Salmonella Dub – Dub Plates Producer) on a remix of their first single ‘One To Ten’ [released August 22, 2019]. Recently the band underwent a name change from 'N8VSOUL' to non-abbreviated 'Native Soul' in honor and respect of indigenous cultures. The album was written and produced by Werner. Releasing early 2021. [ABOUT THE ALBUM: Lyrics fall into the orbit of deep bass-laden tracks and dub beats, littered with samples and Werners ethereal vocal melodies, leaving you with the sensation of meditation from beginning to end.]
