New York-based dark rock mavens Vajra have returned. The long silence between debut cult album 'Pleroma' & the group’s remarkable new album 'Irkalla' (produced by Sahaj Ticotin, Ra) was the product of a rigorous touring schedule & a complex confluence of unexpected life events that paused vocalist/visionary Annamaria Pinna’s prolific (& profound) songwriting output.
Throughout 'Irkalla', Pinna & bandmates Dave Sussman (bass) formerly of Bile, Al Javier (guitar), Mark Collom (guitar), and Jimmy DeMarco (drums/percussion) conjure music from a diverse panoply of threads & the album features Blake Fleming (ex-The Mars Volta.) “The influences are varied,” affirms Pinna. “I lived in India for 5 years, my dad was a monk before he met my mom, I'm into yoga & mediation, & I have this condition called Synesthesia. "Musically, TOOL, A Perfect Circle, Hindustani Classical, Alice In Chains, Duran Duran, Black Sabbath, Deftones are all influences”
After extensive touring throughout the US & Europe, "Maya" is the band’s follow-up to their single “The Mirror”, which debuted #1 Billboard Mainstream Rock Indicator Most Added Chart & debuted #38 Billboard Mainstream Rock Indicator Chart. ‘Pleroma’, released on the Summer Solstice in 2012, explores the concept of paradox, was produced by Annamaria & includes Blake Fleming (ex-The Mars Volta) on drums. Sylvia Massy (TOOL, System Of A Down, Prince, Johnny Cash) mixed.
