Howlite craft elemental, cinematic dreamscapes, marrying trip-hop with pop songwriting to create a sound that is entirely their own.
Their latest singles, ‘Olympia’ and ‘Reducer’ , are pillow-pop delights that sees the band shed their folk roots for something far more expansive and brooding. The songs showcase a more unified, cohesive sound, and are the first taste from the bands forthcoming EP ‘Not Here’, their most fully-realised and ambitious release to date. This more direct, dreamy sound is the result of lush, immersive vocals, propulsive guitars and trip-hop inspired beats.
Introspection is at the core of ‘Not Here’. As Alison explains, writing and recording this EP was a process of “trying to understand what is happening in my head”. To harness the tracks otherworldly pop elements the band engaged super producer JP Fung ( AViVA, Lime Cordiale, MANE), alongside producer Tyson Fish (Children Collide, Vance Joy), and engineer Daniel Caswell (Bad//Dreems ).
What results is a collection of bracingly honest, earnest and reflective songs that explore mental health, heartache, femininity and selfhood. These ideas and themes are anchored by Alison’s velvety, captivating vocals and the band’s intricate, dark instrumentation, that recalls bands like London Grammar, Daughter and The XX.
