For the last two years, Max Helgemo has walked hospital hallways as a working musician in residence, playing songs for patients.
His musical style has grown out of the intimacy of these often one-on-one performances, with early comparisons to Gregory Alan Isakov. Helgemo’s 2019 recordings take a decidedly new direction, nodding to Bon Iver and Lord Huron as influences in their use of hazy choral voices and subtle synth textures to create indie folk landscapes. Helgemo has played shows around Florida for years and recently opened for folk duo Cicada Rhythm on their national tour. He records between hospital shifts, honing songs to take on the road for a handful of 2019 tours.
