The Malmö Symphony Orchestra is one of Sweden's best-known ensembles. Formed in 1925, the orchestra was conducted by Walther Meyer-Radon from its founding until 1929.
Other conductors who have led the orchestra include Herbert Blomstedt, Brian Priestman, Gilbert Varga, and Mario Venzago. From its beginning, the Malmö Symphony Orchestra accompanied the productions of the Malmö Opera and Music Theatre and gave concerts, though since 1991 it has performed only as a symphony orchestra. It has recorded on Brilliant Classics, Caprice Records, Sterling, dB Productions, BIS and Naxos.
