Jono McCleery is well-travelled, both musically and geographically. He has toured with the musicians Bonobo, Jamie Woon, Portico (Quartet) amongst many others.
And while his travels are far from over, he seems to have found his home. A talented juggler of quiet tones, he offers us a sharply reductive reflection on his musical roots. Considering that he’s been carrying some of the songs around for 18 years, it comes as no surprise to learn that McCleery recorded his new album in just four days, completely freed from the restrictions of the industry and only with the help of a couple of friends. This new-found freedom is noticeable in the naïve way he plays with dramatic compositions, structures, rhythms and especially expectations.
