British conductor Nicholas Collon is also a violist, pianist, and organist. He attended Eton and Clare College, Cambridge, where he was an organ scholar, and he was instructed in conducting by Colin Davis and Mark Elder.
He played viola in the New Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, and with fellow musicians from this orchestra and conductor Robin Ticciati, he helped form the Aurora Orchestra. Awarded the Arts Foundation Fellowship for conducting, Collon was chosen from a group of 20 conductors. In 2007, Collon conducted a performance of Die Zauberflöte in Ramalah and Bethlehem, and conducted La bohème there in 2009. He made his debut with the English National Opera in 2012, and in 2015 he was appointed as co-principal conductor of the Residentie Orkest den Haag. He has recorded for Onyx, Decca, NMC, and Warner Classics.
