No musical risk is too extreme; anything is fair game. Simply put, Doombalaya is a wall of sound. Dubbed 'progressive world beat', their style is a mixture of jazz, afrobeat, progressive rock, hip hop, traditional musics of the world, funk, New Orleans, and all things in between. Arrangements are unpredictable and full of surprises - seamlessly weaving through bizarre time signatures and a variety of feels. The five man fiery horn line is matched by an eclectic yet cohesive, full rhythm section. Members have done extensive studying around the world (Zambia, St. Lucia, Italian and Dutch conservatories, Ghana, Norway) and look to each culture as inspiration for their sound. Doombalaya was born out of the Tulane jazz program and has evolved their own unique voice through their six year career. They've played throughout the states but proudly call New Orleans home. They have played shows with Consider the Source, Naughty Professor, Johnny Sketch & the Dirty Notes, Gov't Majik, Nasimiyu, The Honorable South, and Phil the Tremolo King. Doombalaya has also had guest artists perform with them, including Maurice Brown, Mike Watson, Jeremy Phipps, and Black Sol. They have been heard at venues in uptown and downtown New Orleans Tipitina's, Howlin’ Wolf, Hi-Ho Lounge, Maison, Gasa Gasa, Banks Street Bar, Circle Bar, Café Istanbul, Siberia, and many other New Orleans venues. They've brought their music to 8 states - from packed halls in Greenwich Village to college town hot spots.
