The band’s persona – at once aggressive, composed, introspective and nimble – is really an extension of the band members themselves, reflecting the wealth of experience, attitude and musicianship they bring to the stage.
The Almost Faithful formed in 2015 after John decided to combine his music interests with his existing career as a multi-media artist. While his lyrics lean toward the philosophical, the music has taken on a more energetic character with the addition of Hal and James. As a trio, the group has discovered that their raw sound meshes perfectly with the content of John’s lyrics.
Drawing inspiration from an assortment of music artists including The Who, Pixies, and David Bowie, The Almost Faithful often employs unconventional time signatures and chord progressions to create complex compositions. John delivers his lyrics with a vocal inflection that – sardonic and eerie – at times sounds like a cross between Nick Cave and Ray Davies, creating a sound imbued with an air of risk and mystery.
The NW Music Scene blog wrote that The Almost Faithful “…takes you on a journey that is at times progressive, often alluring, into a dreamscape of sounds that is touched by the grit of grunge, just like Seattle.” Stephen Graham at KNDD radio described their sound as “straight out of a Quentin Tarantino film.”
