which rarely rhyme. Accompanying herself on classical guitar, and
taking inspiration from the likes of J.S. Bach, Jethro Tull, The
Incredible String Band and John Prine, Kyla Tilley flavours her
girl-with-a-guitar folk numbers with dissonant harmonies and alluring
melodies. A modern-day minstrel, Kyla's storytelling style of
songwriting encompasses elements from a wide selection of genres, and
though some of her lyrics touch on the realms of the fantastic, more
deal with all-too-easily-understood earthly matters. While some of
her songs may induce unwelcome introspection, others uplift and
empower with unrestrained joie de vivre.
In 2018 Kyla released Whimsys, a 5 song EP of some of her more
whimsical numbers performed simply with guitar and voice and Loose
Summer, a mostly instrumental composition for the cat-walk featuring 5
short episodes of airy guitar, flute, bottles and found percussion.
