Born and raised in the flower-child city of San Francisco, as well as a proud member of the LGBTQAI+ community, CLAY’s diverse and politically potent upbringing has guided her work as a multidisciplinary artist into new powerful realms.
CLAY seeks to make medicinal music, music that heals, disrupts, sparks conversation and moves people.
Her first independent release, “Wildthing/3’s a Crowd” a two-part single, went #1 on the U.S. Viral Charts and #3 in the world, on Spotify. Her next song, “Forgotten How to Fly” was originally meant to be a demo. Given the content of the song, in which she sings about re-discovering personal freedom, she felt that releasing a perfectly imperfect demo was exactly right. That’s how CLAY operates as an artist, finding innovative ways to share her truth, directly with her audience.
The combination of poignant lyrics and her soulful, smokey one-of-a-kind voice, CLAY’s genre-defying music pierces straight to the heart of the listener. She makes one feel truly seen. In tapping into her innermost truths, and the intimacy of her experiences, she taps into the collective, the universal. She hopes that in sharing her voice and being her most authentic self, unabashedly, she can open up space for others to do the same.
CLAY is set to release both an EP and a full-length album in 2021. 🌻
