This is the best adjective to describe the band Far Form Alaska. No one could suspect that from Natal, Rio Grande Do Norte state, Brazil, a city known for it’s tropical beaches with white sand and warm sea, the five members Emmily Barreto (vocals), Cris Botarelli (Steel Guitar, Synths and vocals), Rafael Brasil (guitars), Edu Filgueira (bass) e Lauro Kirsch (drums) would put together a rock band with queer sound that is suprising everyone wherever they pass.
Heavy riffs, female vocals and lyrics in English once were very unlikely to succeed where they came from (northeast of Brazil), but today they are one of the main bands in Brazil. FFA’s first album “modeHuman” was elected as one of the top 10 albuns of 2014 by Rolling Stone Brasil and in 2016 FFA was selected for the Spotify Spotlight program which picks the 10 of most promising artists of the year in each territory. Internationally, the band played at the SXSW 2016 in Austin, TX, 50th MIDEM in Cannes, France (honored with the “We are the Future” award) and recently at Download Festival in Paris (main stage). They just released their second album “Unlikely” produced and recorded by Sylvia Massy (Tool, System Of A Down, Johnny Cash, etc.) in her own studio in Ashland Oregon (USA).
