Superstar soprano Sonya Yoncheva has been heralded as one of the most acclaimed and exciting performers of her generation.
Engagements of the 2019/2020 season include her title role debuts in a new production of Fedora at the Teatro alla Scala and in Manon Lescaut at the Metropolitan Opera; star turns as Imogene in Il pirata at the Teatro Real Madrid, as Mimì in La bohème at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, in the title roles of Médée at the Staatsoper Berlin and of Tosca at the Wiener Staatsoper as well as at the Bayerische Staatsoper. Sonya will also appear in concert at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, the Moscow Tchaikovsky Hall and the Sofia Philharmonic Hall and in Recital at the Palau de la Musica in Barcelona.
Recent highlights include new productions of Tosca at the Met, Norma at Covent Garden, L'incoronazione di Poppea at Salzburg Festival, Il pirata (Imogene) at La Scala, Don Carlos (Élisabeth de Valois) and La bohème (Mimì) at the Paris Opera; Luisa Miller, La bohème and La traviata at the Met, La bohème at La Scala and Les contes d'Hoffmann (Antonia) at Covent Garden.
Born in 1981, Sonya Yoncheva first studied singing in her hometown of Plovdiv, Bulgaria and later at the Conservatory of Geneva. Sonya Yoncheva is an alumna of William Christie’s Le Jardin des Voix and has maintained a special focus the Early and Baroque repertory.
Sonya records exclusively for Sony Classical, and is featured on solo albums titled Handel, Paris, mon amour, and The Verdi Album.
