Making Movies is having a landmark year that began with Rolling Stone premiering their rollicking collab with Rubén Blades, No Te Calles, the first single from Paraíso Road Gang; the song was featured on NPR’s 'Best Songs of 2019' and the album was nominated for Latin Grammy Album of the Year.
Making Movies' following album, ameri'kana, features Rubén Blades and members of Los Lobos, Flor de Toloache, and Ozomatli. Blades offered himself as a guide during the process and appears on three tracks of the record, including Delilah, a song Blades co-wrote with Lou Reed, which called, “an epic musical collaboration brought together by the topic of immigration."
Formed by two Panamanian brothers after emigrating to the Midwest, Making Movies is known for genre-bending North and South American influences, mixing the latin roots of the Blues and Rock'n'roll with rumbero percussion, psychedelic organs, and grungy fuzz guitars. The band's unique sound inherits from rock'n'roll legends like Ritchie Valens, Los Lobos, and Los Spiders, as well as crossover artists like Santana and Rubén Blades, who explored the connection best described by the band's motto: "ROCK'N'ROLL IS LATIN MUSIC." The group's global rock’n’roll along with their advocacy and socially conscious lyrics make it apparent why Rolling Stone says, “this band is breaking down walls in the United States.”
