Oceanography began as a home recording project for singer-songwriter Brian Kelly after a move from New York to his native land, California.
Straddling the lines between indie rock, post punk and Americana, Oceanography’s songs unfold like a collection of Raymond Carver stories. With lyric driven vocal melodies over layers of angular guitar lines, Kelly’s unique voice softly draws you in close, only to sweep you into moments of cathartic intensity.
“Supercharged indie rock. Oceanography has nailed the forgotten art of anthemic guitar rock with a quirky underbelly, serving the non-status quo.”
—Glide Magazine
“Oceanography manages to carve out its own sound, aided by Brian Kelly’s distinct vocals that recall the manic crooning of Suede’s Brett Anderson and Ian McCulloch of Echo & the Bunnymen.”
— East Bay Express
“Oceanography could be described as the best of what rock has offered in the last 20 to 40 years.”
— This is Book’s Music
“Epic live performance.”
