Coming together through their lust for music and like-minded attitudes, the seed of Goat Girl was originally sown in 2015.
Continually crossing paths at a number of gigs and open mic nights across South London, forming a band felt like the natural next step. Consisting of Clottie Cream (vocals/guitar) L.E.D (vocals/guitar), Rosy Bones (drums), Naima Jelly (vocals/bass) and now Gaping Hole(vocals/bass), the quartet’s combined talents and enthusiasm resulted in a uniquely defiant sound that wasted no time in pricking the ears of legendary British record label Rough Trade. Using the Brixton Windmill as a sounding board, Goat Girl’s warped, country-tinged sound nods to the sonic landscape that Goat Girl were surrounded by, citing fellow performers Bat-Bike, Horsey, Meatraffle and Warmduscher as influences. Supported and encouraged by booker Tim Perry, this venue was and continues to be, a breeding ground for Goat Girl’s creativity and important element of their growth. Goat Girl’s critically-acclaimed self-titled debut arrived in 2018, enlisting the skills of producer wiz Dan Carey to capture their vision in its live, raw form. Juxtaposing honeyed three part harmonies with gritty guitar sounds and doomy drums, Lottie’s distinctive vocals are both robust and husky, with a humbling tactility. Marrying ominous synths and spine-chilling electronics with their penchant for unusual chord progressions and eerie guitar lines, there’s a refreshing sense of freedom and honesty.
